Instructions

Call the National Do Not Call Registry at (888) 382-1222 or visit www.donotcall.gov. Follow the steps and prompts to register your number. Once your number is registered, solicitors have up to 30 days from the date you call to remove your number from their lists and stop calling.

    • 2

If you are still getting phone calls from solicitors after the 30-day deadline, call the registry's toll-free line at (888) 382-1222 to verify that your number is on the list. If it's not on the list, ask to speak to someone who can make sure it is added.

If you've confirmed your number is on the list and you continue to get calls from the solicitors, answer the calls. Tell the solicitor to put your number on his company's "do not call list." Under the Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, for-profit companies are required to maintain such lists. Get the solicitor's name and the name of his company. Keep a list of which companies you've spoken with. If a company or particular solicitor continues to call, call the Federal Trade Commission at (877) FTC-HELP (382-4357) and file a complaint.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Do Not Call registry is free and your number should remain on the list for at least five years.
