How to Crochet With Nylon Cord
Crocheters are not limited to working only with yarn. If you can crochet, you can use a variety of materials in your craft. From thread and leather to hemp and cotton, you can crochet with almost any yarn-like substance. Try to crochet with nylon cord the next time you want to make a project that is sturdy and colorful.

1
Choose the right hook. Nylon cord is relatively thin, so try a smaller crochet hook—a size US F or G, which would be approximately 3.75 mm to 4 mm. These hooks will help you keep your stitches close and utilize the strength of the nylon cording to make a denser crocheted fabric.

Find an appropriate pattern. When working with nylon cord, your project will be stiff and sturdy. As a result, you don't want to choose a garment pattern; nylon cord is not appropriate for scarves, hats, or sweaters. Instead, choose accessories or household items like bags, purses, pouches, coasters, or doilies.

Keep your stitches tight. When you crochet with nylon cord, tight stitches are the key to a well-executed project. When you crochet tightly, your stitches will stay even and close together, and your finished product will be tightly woven and secure. Nylon cord can be slippery, so you will have to take extra care to grip it firmly in order to keep the stitching tight.

Finish your project. Use a large-eye blunt needle to weave in the cord ends, and then block it if you want to change the shape. To block nylon cord, simply soak it in water for a few minutes, then stretch it to the right size or shape and pin it down to a blocking board, ironing board, or mattress. Once dry, it should hold its shape well.
You will not be able to drastically change the size or shape of your project when using nylon cord. However, the nylon will stretch and reshape itself slightly with blocking, so when you block your project you can make minor changes to its overall appearance.
