How to Make a Flower Hair Clip Pin

Flower hair clips and pins are easy to make on your own. Once you get started making the pins, you will be making them for all of your female friends and family members. Most women wear flower clips and pens for special occasions like proms and weddings; however, such hair accessories are popular among women who dress in the vintage and rockabilly styles of clothing and hair styles.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Artificial flowers
    • Wire cutter
    • Alligator hair clip
    • Bobby pins
    • Hot glue
    • Hot glue gun
    • Super glue
    • Embroidery thread
    • Ribbon
    • Sequins
    1. Alligator Hair Clip

      • 1

Choose your artificial flowers and cut the fake blooms off of the stems. You will have to cut the stems with a wire cutter to cut through the wire and plastic coating of the stems.

      • 2

Pull the flower apart by removing the harder green plastic backing at the base of the flower; this will allow you to press the actual flower closer to the clip and create a better attachment. Pull the center of the flower out and cut off the stem attached to this piece with the wire cutter.

      • 3

Apply hot glue to the top, broadest part of the alligator style hair clip. Immediately press the cloth petal pieces onto the hot glue, centering the pieces onto the clip. Apply a pellet sized dot of hot glue and then press the center of the flower back into place on top of the petals.

      Bobby Pins

      • 1

Cut the artificial blooms off the plastic and wire stems with the wire cutters, leave approximately 1-inch of stem. Bend the wire to create a 90-degree angle in the stem for flowers pinned to the side of the head or leave the wire straight to stick into pony tails.

      • 2

Apply a thin strip of super glue to one side of the short flower stem. Press the looped, closed end of a bobby pin to the super glue covered side of the flower stem and hold in place for a few seconds while the glue dries.

      • 3

Wrap a short length of embroidery thread around the bobby pin and flower stem to prevent the flower pin from coming apart. Secure the ends of the thread with small dots of super glue.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Dress up the pins and clips even more with pieces of ribbon and sequins glued on with either hot glue or super glue.
