If you like the look of beads strung on ribbon, you may wonder how jewelry makers string wide ribbon through beads with tiny holes. The process has a trick to it, and you can quickly learn how to string a variety of different beads onto ribbons of different widths. This look is especially attractive when you make choker necklaces with beads on colorful ribbons.
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Organza ribbon (1/2 inch to 1 inch wide)
- Beading wire (18 gauge)
- Wire cutters
Determine how long you want your jewelry piece to be and add 10 inches to this measurement (more if you plan to knot the ribbon between the beads). Cut the organza ribbon to this measurement.
Cut a 6-inch length of beading wire with the wire cutters. Bend the wire in half.
Slide a bead onto the bent wire so the bead is approximately 2 inches away from the bend in the wire.
Thread the organza ribbon through the bend in the wire and fold the ribbon back onto itself by at least 2 inches.
Slide the bead from the beading wire over to the ribbon and push the bead along the ribbon.
Repeat steps three through five until your ribbon has all of the beads on it.
Leave enough organza ribbon at both ends for tying the bracelet or necklace into a simple double bow.
Cut the ends of the ribbon off at 45-degree angles to prevent fraying.
