Windows XP by default displays a generic wallpaper before launching the desktop. However, you can change the logon wallpaper to whatever you like.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click the Windows "Start" menu on the desktop and click "Run."

      Type "regedit" (Without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the registry.

      Click the "+" symbol next to the "HKEY_USERS" folder on the left panel. This expands the folder. Expand ".DEFAULT" and expand "CONTROL PANEL."Expand "DESKTOP."

      Double-click the "Wallpaper" sting" on the right panel. Enter the full path and filename of the .bmp image that you want to use as your XP logon wallpaper. Click "OK" to save the changes. Click "File" on the top and click "Exit" to close the registry.

      Restart your computer. You should see the new logon wallpaper.
