2
Wear protective gear such as goggles, masks and protective clothing to prevent staining, inhalation of sanded wood and eye irritation.
-
-
3
Fill in any holes in the floorboards with wood putty or filler. Apply with a taping knife and let it dry for 24 hours.
-
4
Fit coarse sandpaper in a drum sander and sand the deck using back and forth motions, following the grain of the wood. Never leave the sander in one spot. Move the sander diagonally over warped floor boards. Then fit medium coarse sand paper into the drum sander and re-sand the deck.

5
Sand the edges and corners of the deck or any hard-to-reach areas with a palm sander fitted with fine grit sand paper.
-
6
Use a paint brush and rollers to paint the deck boards and apply multiple coats for an even coat.

7
Seal the deck boards with a waterproof finish. Use a foam brush to work in the finish. Let the finish dry for 24 hours.
