How to Access Yahoo Messenger From School
You desperately want to talk to your friends through Yahoo! Messenger while you're in school. If you find yourself bored while on a break, this can be a good way to pass the time. Most schools do not allow downloads on their public computers, so you cannot download the application directly, but there are still ways to talk to your friends when you have the time--without getting yourself in trouble for it. Using a web-based messenger will allow you to use the messenger just like at home, but it is not saved onto the school’s computer.

1
Find access to a computer with Internet in the school. Try a computer lab or the library. Open the web browser on the computer.
-
2
Visit Yahoo!'s Messenger for the Web page. Click the yellow “Sign In” button. You will get a pop-up box asking for your username and password. If your school blocks all pop-ups, you will not be able to access the Yahoo! Messenger this way. See “Tips” for an alternative if this happens.

3
Type in your Yahoo! ID and password, then click “Sign In.” The pop-up will go away and the webpage you were on before will show your contacts list.
-
4
Proceed to send messages, add contacts and change your status just as you would with the downloaded program.

Tips & Warnings
If you cannot gain access to the web messenger, try going to Meebo.com or Koolim.com. These are other web-based messengers. If this does not work, then your school likely has all messaging-type websites blocked and you will not be able to access Yahoo! Messenger.
If you own a smart phone, you can download an application using your phone’s application search or through the phone’s built-in instant messaging software. It varies between phones; check the manual and the phone to see if it has the capability.
