How to Color Hair in Photoshop
Why go to the hair salon when you can update your look in Photoshop? You don't need a dye job when you change your hair color in photos. Select your hair using the "Quick Mask" feature and try new looks--blonde, brunette, pink or even green. This fun application can update your style quickly and for free.

Open Photoshop and press "File" then "Open" from the drop-down menu. Select the photo you wish to update and press "Ok".

Click the "Quick Mask" button in the Toolbox.

Double-click the "Quick Mask" button and click the radio button next to "Selected Areas." Type "50" into the box next to "Opacity." Press "Ok."

Press the "Brush" button in the Toolbox and select a hard-edged round brush from the drop-down box on the "Brush" menu bar.

"Paint" over the hair. Change your brush size as needed to cover all of the hair.

Press the letter "Q" on your keyboard after all the hair is selected. If you have selected areas that are not hair, or need to clean-up the selection press "Q" again and select the "Eraser" tool in the Toolbox. Erase the unwanted selection. Press "Q" when you are satisfied.

Hold the "Control" key down on your keyboard and press the letter "J" key. This will produce a new layer of your selection.

Press "Image" in the menu bar and select "Adjustments" then "Color Balance" from the drop-down menus.

Manipulate the color sliders until you are satisfied with the hair color.

Click the radio button next to either "Shadows," "Midtones" or "Highlights"--depending on the desired effect--then click on the box next to "Preserve Luminosity."
