Instructions

    • 1

Find some old 2 by 4s that are no longer being used or are from an old cabinet. Decide how tall you would like your kitchen island to be and cut 4 of the 2 by 4s to that length. If you wish to use wheels, take into account that added height. Cut the four 2 by 4s to form the top of the kitchen island to the dimensions of your choice.

    • 2

Lay out the frame for the kitchen island's top so it forms a rectangle on your worktable or floor. Apply glue to the wood and screw the frame together.

    • 3

Apply wood glue to the top of the legs and fit the legs into the four corners of the frame. Screw them in place.

    • 4

Find an old door and cut it down to the dimensions you would like for the kitchen island top. Put glue on the top of the frame. Lay the door on top of the frame, and secure it by screwing it through the frame's bottom. This way you won't see the screws from the top of the kitchen island.

Sand and finish the kitchen island with the finish of your choice. If you want to use wheels, add them now.
