How To Adjust Paper Cutters

Paper cutters need adjustment now and then. The most common way to adjust them is by tightening the handle. The arm that holds the blade can get loose, making it difficult to cut a clean, sharp edge. You can take care of this yourself without too much trouble.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Adjustable wrench
• Replacement spring

Instructions

1. Turn the board so that the hinge that holds the handle to the board is in front of you. Using a firm grip, pull off the guard piece that covers the spring.

2. Grasp the locking nut with one adjustable wrench, while turning the bolt to your left with the other wrench. This will loosen the bolt and remove it.

3. Unscrew the spring bolt in the same manner.

4. Remove the spring. Position the new spring and attach using the spring bolt. Screw the bolt in clockwise to tighten.

5. Replace the locking nut, screwing it in clockwise to tighten.

6. Replace the guard piece. Apply firm pressure to snap it back on.

7. Pull the handle up and down a few times to make sure you have tightened the bolts correctly. The handle should come down tight against the board.
