How to Dock the Actions Panel in Flash CS3

ActionScripts is the coding that controls animation and other effects Flash CS3 performs. The action panel is the window where this coding is placed. The panel provides tips and live feedback for those less experienced with ActionScript coding. Because this panel is a vital part to a Flash movie, it is key that the panel is conveniently placed. When you first open the action panel, it floats over your Flash workspace. This can become tedious if you have to keep moving the panel to view your design. Dock your action panel to allow your work to be visible without the panel getting in the way.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open your Flash CS3 program.

    • 2

Deselect the "Disable Panel Docking" preference if it is selected. In Microsoft Windows, select "Edit," then "Preferences." Click on the "General" tab and deselect "Disable Panel Docking." Mac users do not have this option in the preference panel.

    • 3

Open the action panel. Select "Windows," then select "Actions" or press the "F9" key.

    • 4

Click on the panel with your mouse and drag the panel to the docking location. Click on the "Actions Tab" in the actions panel and drag the actions panel to the location where you want to dock it. In Windows, you can dock the action panel above the property inspector, above or next to the timeline, or within the other panels. In Mac, you can dock the action panel next to the tools panel, inside the properties panel or within the other panels.

Drop the panel to dock it. A blue line will appear as you approach a legitimate docking location. Release the mouse to dock the panel where the blue line indicates.

Tips & Warnings

  • Undock the action panel by clicking on the action tab and dragging it away from its docked location.
