How to Determine Where to Retire
If you are planning ahead for retirement, you may be thinking about moving. While some people retire and stay in the same home, others move to a new city, a new state or even a new country. Determining where you want to live when you retire takes some research and time.

1
Decide what you want out of a place to retire. For example, you'll need to consider things like climate, cost of living, whether you want to be near family members and whether you need to be near an airport.
-
2
Consult a financial planner. If you do not have one, ask friends, relatives and colleagues for a referral. The financial planner will look over your assets and retirement income and let you know how much money you can afford to pay for living expenses during your retirement.

Evaluate the healthcare options in the areas or places you are interested in. For example, if you have heart problems you will want to research related medical facilities and doctors in these areas. In fact, you may want to just look for places that offer the best care and treatment for heart problems and start there. Magazines such as Money and Forbes often have "Best City For..." information that can help you with your research.
