Windows 2000 Professional was the operating system released by Microsoft prior to Windows XP. This version of the Windows operating system had several add-on options, including a professional add-on. Although official support for this operating system ends in July of 2010, you may still be running Windows 2000 Professional on your computer and you may need to set up a wireless network. This can be accomplished using the tools that come with operating system.

      Click "Start" and then "Settings." From this menu, click "Control Panel."

      Double click "Network and dial-up connections." This is the menu you need in order to establish a new wireless network.

      Right click "Local area connection" and then select "Properties." This will open the properties menu for your wireless card.

      Remove the check mark from the box next to "File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks." On the same screen, check the "Show icon in taskbar when connected" check box.

      Click the "Configure" button near the top of the window. When this menu opens, click the "Advanced" tab located at the top of the window.

      Click on "SSID" in the "Property" field. Enter a name for the network in the "Value" field. Click "OK" to finish the configuration. This will create and set up a wireless network.
