How to Make a Fleece Blanket Overhand Knot
Whether used as impromptu jackets for running across campus, tents for reading at night or to keep out the chill, nearly everyone appreciates a soft, fuzzy blanket. Fleece is an especially good material for blankets. It holds in warmth, is soft yet sturdy, machine washable and comes in hundreds of colors and patterns. Some fleece blankets don't even need to be sewn. Attractive knotted fringe holds these blankets together and helps give them a soft, double-thickness.

1
Use one yard of fabric for an infant, two or three for a child and six or seven yards for a teen or adult. If you want to use different patterns for each side, divide the number of yards you need in half and buy the resulting amount in each pattern. For example, get one yard of fabric in each pattern for a child’s blanket.

2
Cut your fleece exactly in half if you're using the same pattern for the front and back of the blanket and lay the pieces on top of each other with the wrong sides together. For two patterns, simply lay the pieces on top of each other without cutting them.

3
Trim the edges of the fleece so they all line up exactly. Use very sharp scissors to cut your fleece. Dull scissors will only chew the fabric and leave ragged cuts.
-
4
Lay a ruler 1/2 inch away from, but parallel, to the edge of the fleece. Make lines perpendicular to the ruler from the ruler to the edge of the fabric using chalk. Make the lines at 1/2-inch intervals all the way around the edges.
-
5
Snip through the fabric, making fringe along your lines. Tie one fringe from the top fleece to its corresponding fringe on the lower fleece in an overhand knot by knotting them once like you would begin to tie your shoes. Tie them this way again to finish your knot.
