Locate the most appropriate area in your house for mounting the solar panel. In most houses, the best place to install solar panels is the rooftop as it receives most of the sunlight and there are no obstacles like trees or surrounding building shades.

Locate the supporting rafters in the area where you have to install the panels with the help of a stud finder. Mounting the solar panels to the supporting rafters of the roof secures them firmly.

Pre-drill holes in the supporting rafter using a pilot bit. This will protect the roof rafters from splitting due to faulty drilling.

Secure the mounting device to the supporting rafters using roofing nails. Mount the solar panels on the mounting device with the help of lag bolts. While installing the solar panels on the mounts, leave some room (approximately 2 to 4 inches) so air can circulate and keep the panels cool.

Place metal flashings on the base of mounts to prevent any leakages in the roof. Metal flashings are thin pieces of metal sheet that prevent water from entering the house through small openings on roof.

Form an array by connecting several panels together and run a conduit to the solar inverter. You might want to hire a professional electrician for this step if you do not have any experience with wiring.

Keep in mind that even a tiny amount of shade on the roof can negatively affect the performance of the panel. So make sure there is absolutely no hindrance before installing them.
The electrical output from an inverter will need to be connected to your home's electric panel. This is a job for a professional electrician, as it is dangerous and specific knowledge is required.
