How to Resurface Garage Floors
Garage floors receive plenty of abuse from normal wear and tear as well as stains from fluids leaking out of a car Concrete is a very durable surface, but it is also porous and tends to absorb stains. You can resurface your floor with a good cleaning and application of a cement finish, but this will probably only delay refinishing it in a complete way. It's a big job, but worth the effort when you make your garage floor shiny and look practically brand new. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Open up your garage door, strap on a painter's mask and wear eye protection. This is a messy, dusty project.
-
2
Place a metal-mesh diamond disc on a sander/grinder you rented or purchased from a home improvement or flooring store. (Examples of these machines are shown in resources). Sand over your concrete floor with this disc.
-
-
3
Place a 300-grit disc on your sander/grinder. Sand again until the floor feels smooth.
-
4
Spread a thin layer of feather finish on your garage floor with a trowel. Allow the feather finish to dry for the time recommended on the label, usually around four hours. Feather finish is a smooth compound that bonds very well to concrete and eliminates the need to apply a primer.
-
5
Place a 1,000-grit disc on your sander. Gently sand and smooth the floor one last time.
-
6
Sweep up any debris with a dust pan and broom. You can also simply sweep it out of the front door. Vacuum the floor to remove any dust or tiny residue from the sanding.
-
7
Brush a coat of a polyurethane concrete finish, like Tuff-Coat Concrete, along the walls of your garage with a paint brush. Use a paint roller to apply the finish to the rest of the floor, starting at the back and working your way towards the front of the garage. Concrete finishers can be found at home improvement, hardware and many paint stores.
-
8
Permit the floor to dry for the recommended time. Apply another coat of finish with the method described above.
-
9
Place a buffing disc on your sanding/grinding machine. Buff your now resurfaced garage floor.
