How to Find the Startup Programs in XP

Startup programs are programs, which by default launch automatically when you boot or restart your computer. They include programs such as antivirus programs, messenger applications and system components. It is important to find your startup programs so that you can disable any program that you do not want to launch when you start your computer. Windows XP enables you to easily locate startup programs.

      Double-click "My Computer" to launch Windows Explorer and double-click the "C:" drive.

      Double-click the "Documents and Settings" folder and double-click the "All Users" folder. Double-click the "Start Menu" folder and double-click the "Programs" folder. Double-click the "Startup" folder. You will see a list of the programs that startup when you boot your computer.

      Alternatively, click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Run" to launch the command box. Type "msconfig" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the "Systems Configuration Utility" dialog box.

      Click the "Startup" tab. You should see a list of the programs that launch automatically when you start your computer. To prevent a program from launching on computer startup, simply un-check it. Click "Apply" to save the changes and restart your computer.
