How to Make a Simple Model Car
Model building is a great hobby. The best way to start is by increasing the complexity of your building techniques gradually as you gain experience. Building a simple model car will begin to develop the basic skills to learn the techniques needed to assemble more intricate models. Snap-together models are simple models to assemble without the need for glue and paint. When the basic methods of building these car kits are mastered, it becomes easier to undertake more complex models.

- Newspapers
- Craft knife
- Cutting board
- Model glue
- Paper towels or rags
- Fine sandpaper

Select a model that is labeled for beginners and has a limited number of parts.

Remove the instruction sheet from the box. Read all instructions before preparing or assembling parts.

Check the contents of the box to be sure all parts are present.

Remove parts from the plastic molding tree using a craft knife. Trim and lightly sand parts to assure they will fit together.

Clean parts in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly with clear water. Air-dry all parts.

Select a model that has precolored, snap-together parts. This eliminates the need for handling glue, adhesives, and paints.
If necessary, use glue, paint, and solvents in a well-ventilated area because their vapors can be toxic and flammable.
