How to Upload a Wallpaper

Your desktop wallpaper can reflect your personality, bring a smile to your face and make your computer welcoming, despite the work you do on it. The perfect background can be the inspiring pick-me-up you need to get the job done. Whether you want a funny cartoon or a family portrait, uploading a desktop wallpaper that suits you is very simple and you will probably spend more time searching for the perfect picture than you will actually uploading it.

Instructions

  1. Setting Desktop Wallpaper

    • 1

Search for images using your web browser if you don't already have a picture saved to your computer that you want to use. Any picture will do, but the bigger, the better. Tiny pictures will look pixelated when they're enlarged to desktop size, making your picture look blocky. If you have a picture saved to your computer already, move on to Step 3.

    • 2

Save the picture to your computer, allowing you to use it again. Open the largest version of the picture (the actual image, not a thumbnail-size shot in a gallery). Right-click on the image and select "Save Image As." Select the location to save the file, type a name for the image, and then click "Save." If you prefer to use the picture straight from your browser, skip to Step 4 without saving the image.

    • 3

Right-click on an empty part of your current desktop background (you may need to minimize any open windows). Select "Properties," then click on the "Desktop" tab. Select "Browse" and find the folder where you saved the image. When you have the image file selected, click "Open," then "Apply." Your desktop should now display the wallpaper you chose.

    • 4

You do not need to save the image to your computer if you intend to use it as wallpaper for just one period of time, and then change your wallpaper another image. While you have the large version of the image opened in your browser, right-click on the image and select "Set as Desktop Background." Your wallpaper will stay saved to your computer until you change it to a different image. The image will remain saved on your computer until you change your wallpaper to a different image.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look for horizontal pictures. Your computer screen is horizontal, so those images will fit the screen better and visible image stretching will be prevented.

  • Your wallpaper can be an art piece, landscape, cartoon, or even your dream vacation spot. Search for images that make you happy or inspire you.

  • When saving an image to use as your wallpaper, place the picture somewhere you will remember it, such as in a folder on your desktop specifically for wallpapers.

  • While in the "Display Properties" window, you can choose to stretch the image across the entire screen, center it in the middle of the screen (maintaining the dimensions of the original image), or tile it (repeating the image to fill the desktop background). These options of image position can be found under the "Browse" button. Try them all until you find the one that works best for your picture.
