Excessive noise is one of the most common problems with front-load washers and is often caused by the washer being out of level. However, it is not difficult to level a front-load washer. Washers sit on the floor on four legs. The legs have threads that allow you to raise or lower the feet. The legs lock into position with a retainer nut at the base of the washer. It may take several attempts to level the machine, but it will quiet the noise of the washer. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 4-foot level
  • Block of wood
  • Wrench set

Instructions

    • 1

      Pull the front-load washer one foot away from the wall.

      Place a 4-foot level across the top edge of the washer, first pointing side to side and then pointing front to back. Check the levelness of the washer and determine what legs need adjusting.

      Place a block of wood under the front of the washer. Adjust the feet by using a wrench to loosen the securing nut around the feet at the base of the washer. Turn the feet counterclockwise to lower a corner of the washer and clockwise to raise the corner. Tighten the securing nut back against the bottom of the washer base with a wrench.

      Take the block of wood out from under the front and place the wood under each of the sides. Adjust the feet as necessary. After adjusting the feet, secure the locking nut.

      Place the washer back on the floor and check the levelness of the washer with the level. Continue making adjustments as necessary. When the washer is level, push the washer back into its operating position.
