How to Display Quicktime TC

In movie production, a video's TC is the timecode. This code is included as part of the video file and provides information such as the frame number or time of recording. Quicktime is an application included in Mac OS X. It allows users to view and convert videos and can also be used for minor editing. Quicktime version 7.1.6 added a feature that allows users to view the timecode of a video instead of the running time counter or the frame number. In order for Quicktime to display a timecode, the video file itself must contain that information.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the "Quicktime" menu in the application and select "Preferences." In the "Preferences" window, under the "General" tab, select the option to "Show timecode when available." Close the window by pressing the red button in the upper left-hand corner.

    • 2

Open the video file by selecting "Open" from the "File" menu.

    • 3

Display the timecode by holding the cursor over the time counter in the lower left-hand corner of the window. A box will appear around the time counter as well as two arrows. Hold your cursor over the arrows and click to reveal the display options. If the video has a timecode, highlight "Timecode" to display it.
