Microsoft Office includes Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and more depending on the year. It allows you to write documents, make presentation slides, create spreadsheets and manage your email. The serial number ensures legal use of Microsoft Office. At some point you may need the serial number for your Microsoft Office software and many people forget to write the information down or misplace it when that time comes. Locating the serial number does not take a lot of time or effort.

Take out the original software box if you have it. In many cases, the serial number is printed on the box, the packaging or inside the box.

If the information is not in or on the box, open Microsoft Office.

When the setup window appears, the serial number will be on that screen toward the bottom.

If you’re unable to locate the serial number while the software opens, continue to the program.

Go to the menu. If you’re using Microsoft Word, it will say “Word.” If you’re using Excel, if will say “Excel,” and so on.

With the menu open, select the "About" option at the top of the menu.

When that menu opens, the serial number will show up near the bottom of the screen. Write it down and keep it in a safe place.
