Photoshop is a powerful software tool that allows you to create and edit image files on your computer. One highly used tool in Photoshop is the ability to create multiple layers in an image. By creating layers, a user can manipulate a part of the image without making changes to the original image itself. This can be a valuable feature, especially if you want to revert back to a version of the image prior to your edits. Photoshop CS3 also allows you to save a particular layer of an image as a separate image file.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an image file in Photoshop by clicking "File" and then "Open."

    • 2

Choose the layer or layers you want to export from your "Layers" toolbar. This is usually located on the bottom right corner of Photoshop. Click on the "Eye" icon next to the layer to make a layer invisible. All invisible layers will not be exported to a file. Therefore, leave all the layers you want to export visible.

    • 3

Click "File" and then "Scripts." Select "Export layers to files."

    • 4

Select a destination where you want to save your file by clicking the "Browse" button next to "Destination" field.

    • 5

Enter a file name in the "File name prefix" field.

    • 6

Select the "Visible layers only" option and then choose a file format from the file format drop-down menu.

    • 7

Click "Run" and the layer will saved as a file.
