Connecting a slip nut and a washer is very simple, but if not installed correctly, it will leak. Slip nuts are the key for any kitchen or bathroom plumbing system. They are the nuts that help hold the different sections of pipe together and make installation quite easy. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place the slip nut onto your drain pipe with its threading facing the threads of the pipe that you wish to connect to.

2
Slip the washer onto the pipe with the slip nut with the thicker side of the washer facing the slip nut.
-
-
3
Insert the pipe with the slip nut and washer into the pipe that you wish to connect to.
-
4
Push the washer down between the gap where the two pipes meet, so the tapered end of the washer leads into the gap between the two pipes.

5
Apply Teflon tape to the threads of the pipe without the slip nut on it. If you are using PVC, you do not need to use Teflon tape.

Thread the washer onto the threading of the pipe that you wish to connect to. If you are working with steel or brass drains, you may need to use a wrench.
