How to Change the Font on Desktop Vista

Both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista have customizable options. However, the ability to change your default desktop icon font is often overlooked. You can change the desktop icon font to any font installed on your computer. You can also change the size and the style. This folder option does not have a "revert to default" setting, so it's important to remember your default font type and size in case you're dissatisfied with your changes.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" (Windows icon) and then choose "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Appearance and Personalization," then click "Personalization." Select "Windows Color and Appearance."

    • 3

Click "Open Classic Appearance Properties for More Options."

    • 4

Click "Advanced," then select "Icons" under the "Item" tab. The "Font" selection will no longer be grayed out. Select your font (Times New Roman, Courier, etc.), select your style (Bold or Italic) and select your size. Click "OK," then click "Apply."

Tips & Warnings

  • The default Vista desktop font is Sergoe UI. The default size is nine.
