How to Create Powerpoint Frames

Microsoft Powerpoint is well known for its ability to produce professional slide shows and presentations. You can also use this MS Office application to turn out beautiful and interesting digital photo albums from images on your computer. One way to make your photos stand out is to enclose them in attractive frames. The Powerpoint Photo Album tool includes several frames from which you can choose, or you can format a picture border to look like a decorative frame.

  1. Use the Photo Album Tool

    • 1

      Open a blank Powerpoint presentation. Go to the "Insert" menu in Powerpoint 2003, point to "Picture" and select "Photo Album." Go to the "Insert" tab in Powerpoint 2007 or 2010, and select "Photo Album" in the "Images" group. The "Photo Album" dialog box will open.

      Click the "File/Disk" button under "Insert From." Select the pictures you want in your photo album and click "Insert."

      Select any option under "Picture Layout" except for "Fit to Slide," which does not allow you to add frames to your photos.

      Choose an option in the "Frame Shape" list, which you can preview on the right side of the dialog box.

      Click the "Browse" button next to "Design Template" in Powerpoint 2003, or "Theme" in Powerpoint 2007 or 2010. Select a design or theme to apply to the frame. Click the "Create" button to make your photo album, complete with picture frames.

    Use Picture Borders

      Click on the slide onto which you want to add a photo and frame. Go to the "Insert" menu in Powerpoint 2003, point to "Picture" and select "From File." Go to the "Insert" tab in Powerpoint 2007 or 2010, and click on "Picture" in the "Images" group. The "Insert Picture" dialog box will open.

      Select the picture to which you want to add a frame and click "Insert."

      Right-click the photo and select "Format Picture." The "Format Picture" dialog box will open.

      Go to the "Colors and Lines" tab in Powerpoint 2003. Select an option for the frame in the "Line Color" box, and change the "Style" and "Weight" if desired. Go to the "Line Style" tab in Powerpoint 2007 or 2010 to select a style for the frame, then go to the "Line Color" tab to select a color or gradient fill.

      Click "OK" and close the dialog box to apply the changes and create the frame for your photo.
