How to Create a Bootable Windows XP CD With Nero Burning ROM
In order to create a bootable Windows XP disc, the user will need the original Windows XP disc to extract a bootable image. Using an image file (ISO) extraction program to create the bootable file, Nero can easily create a bootable Windows XP CD from that image. Doing so, allows the user to backup their installation disc should anything happen to the original.
Things You'll Need
- Windows XP Installation disc
- Nero Burning application
- Blank CD+/-R
- MagicISO

Download and install MagicISO. MagicISO allows the user to extract the boot image from the installation disc, which is needed to create the bootable CD.

Open MagicISO. Insert the original Windows XP installation disc.

Select "Tools" > "Make ISO from CD/DVD-ROM."

Select the CD-ROM drive from the "Source" drop-down menu. Enter a name for the file. Select the radio button for "Export Boot Image" and select "OK." Quit MagicISO once the process completes.

Remove the original CD. Insert a blank CD into the optical drive.

Open Nero. Select "File" > "Burn Image..." and browse for the image file created in the previous step. Select your CD burner when prompted.

Click "Burn/Write" to begin the process of creating the bootable XP CD. Once complete, you can remove the CD and exit the application.
