How to Increase Download Speed for Azureus

Your Internet connection uses certain ports in order to transmit and receive data. Windows Firewall, on the other hand, if enabled, will block ports from communicating with your Internet connection. However, If you use software such as Azureus to download files, your download speed is likely to be very slow.

To speed up downloads in Azureus, you must open the blocked ports in Windows Firewall. Once these ports are enabled, your download speeds should increase.

Instructions

1. Open Azureus. Click "Tools," located on the menu bar, then click "Options." Click "Connection." Enter "6881" into the "Incoming TCP listen port" box.

2. Click the plus sign next to "Plugins," then click "UPnP." Uncheck the box next to "Enable UPnP." Click the "Save" button to save your settings.

3. Click "Start," "All Programs," and then "Accessories." Click "Run." Type "cmd.exe" into the dialogue box, then hit "Enter."

4. Type "ipconfig" into the command prompt, then hit "Enter." Write down the group of digits located next to "IP Address."

5. Click "Start," then click "Control Panel." Double-click "Windows Firewall." Click "Allow a program through Windows Firewall," located on the left-hand side of the window.

6. Click the "Exceptions" tab, then click "Add Port." Type "Azureus" into the "Name" field, then enter "6881" into the "Port number" field.

7. Enter your IP address into the "IP Address" field, if available, then click the "TCP" option. Click "OK." Click "OK" again to close the "Winows Firewall Settings" window.

8. Restart Azureus. Click "Tools," then click "Configuration Wizard" and follow the onscreen instructions to configure your connection.

Tips & Warnings

• You may need to restart your computer for any Windows Firewall changes to take effect.

• If your modem is connected to a router, you may need to open ports via your router as well. Since routers vary based on manufacturer and model, consult your router's manual for more assistance if you are not sure how to open its ports.
