How to Airbrush Torn Metal
Airbrushing uses a type of spray-on paint to make fun, artistic designs on a variety of surfaces. The diversity of airbrush surfaces ranges from cars to personalized, temporary tattoos. The many different applications of airbrushing has made it a popular phenomenon over the past five years, and one of the common recipients of airbrushing is torn metal, which can be found on many motorcycles. It is important to use special permanent paint when airbrushing torn metal, so that the paint job does not fade or wash away in the rain.

1
Clean the metal surface thoroughly with the water-based wax/grease remover.

Wrap the paper towel around the metal, and wrap the transfer tape around the bottom to hold it in place. Sketch an outline of the desired design with the permanent marker. Cut out this design carefully with the utility knife, making sure not to scratch the metal surface.

3
Airbrush the desired color onto the outline, using the remaining paper towel as a stencil. Allow the paint to dry.

4
To add layers of color, repeat the process of wrapping the paper towel around the metal and sketching the design you want. Thin layers of color can be made by using the tape to create thin strips which will be painted. Always allow ample drying time between adding layers of color.
