How to Download Books to a Digital Reader for Average Cost
If you own a digital reader, you can download books and read on an electronic tablet, wherever you go. Manufacturers of these e-readers include Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and Sony, although there are many more brands to choose from. When you want to download books, you can do so directly from the e-reader or the manufacturer's website. Most books are for $10 or less, so you can definitely download books for an average cost.

Turn on your digital reader.

Connect to your e-book store. For example, if you are using an Amazon Kindle e-reader, press the "Menu" button and select "Turn Wireless On" using the controller. With a Barnes & Noble Nook, just tap "Shop" on the "Home" menu.

Search for a book to download. On the Amazon Kindle, you can browse the Kindles Store, look for The New York Times Best Sellers and books you've previously viewed. The cost depends on what you buy, but bestsellers are $9.99 or less on both Amazon.com and BN.com.

Purchase the book. With the BN nook, your default credit card is charged. Amazon charges your default one-click payment method. As soon as the book is ordered, it will download to your digital reader instantly.

Tips & Warnings
The Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble nook are just two popular digital reader brands. Others include the Sony Reader, but downloading books works a bit differently. You must download the Reader software to your computer, set up your account and download e-books from the Reader Library. Download them to your computer, just as you would with iTunes music. Then, connect your Reader to your computer with a USB cord and transfer the books over by dragging the title of the e-book to the "Reader" icon.
You can download e-books from various sites on the web, many of which are free or very affordable. But if you download them directly from the e-Reader's manufacturer, you'll get many more features. For example, if you download e-books for your nook that are not from Barnes & Noble, you must download them to your computer and then transfer them over.
