How to Fix a Yahoo Messenger Mic Problem

Yahoo Messenger is a popular software application that allows users to communicate in many ways. One of those ways is by making voice calls using a microphone and computer speakers. If your contact is having a hard time hearing you because your microphone sounds distorted or isn't working at all, a few simple troubleshooting steps and can usually solve the problem.

Instructions

1. Exit Yahoo Messenger and unplug the microphone from the computer. Plug it back into the mic input and restart your computer.

2. Launch Yahoo Messenger and run the mic setup. To do so, click on the "Messenger" menu and then select "Preferences."

3. Click "Calling and Audio" followed by "Open the Call Setup Assistant" to begin checking your microphone and speakers.

4. Click "Next" on the setup wizard and select the microphone that you are using in the "Choose the microphone that you are using" box. Read the sentence on the setup wizard to test the microphone. If your voice is detected, you should see the message, "You have successfully configured your microphone." Click "Next." If the setup wizard does not detect your voice, check your microphone. Make sure you stay close to the microphone. Make sure that you plug the microphone into the right input. The input is identified by a microphone symbol.

5. Adjust the speaker volume and click "Finish."
