How to Hang an Iron Wine Rack
The decorative aspects of wrought iron make it an attractive material for the display of wine. Iron wine racks come in many designs; some are larger and free-standing, but if you have a smaller rack, hanging it on the wall is an easy task. For racks that store a small amount of wine (one case or less) hanging allows for additional storage without a loss of floor space, and is a simple and beautiful way to display some of your wine collection. Determine the wall location. Regular wine bottles are about 11 1/2 inches long and magnums are 13 1.2 inches long on average. Some rack styles include doors or slide-out shelves, which will also increase the clearance space. Make sure that there is adequate wall space and clearance depth wherever you wish to hang the rack.

Use appropriate mounting hardware. Racks often come with small hooks or loops to secure it to the wall. If these are not included, most hardware stores or home centers carry mounting L-brackets or secured loop brackets that can be attached to the rack. Make sure that your hardware will carry the weight to your wine rack when it is filled to capacity.

Locate the wall studs. Studs are usually placed 16 or 24 inches apart. Using an electronic stud finder, mark the center of the stud, halfway between the measured stud edges, at the height at which you will install the mounting hardware.

Hang the rack. Hold the rack in place and drill the mounting screws into the marked areas on the wall. Repeat for each mounting location.

Carefully center the rack so that the weight of the piece is evenly distributed. Test all moving parts to insure shelved or doors do not throw the rack off center. Load the rack with wine bottles one at a time.

Floor-standing models such as bakers racks and European wine cages do come in smaller versions that can be completely wall hung. These are usually custom pieces and can be costly. The style and placement of mounting hardware will determine the method of installation.
Use two adults to hold and mount the rack. When stocking, follow the maximum weight limit in the package instructions. The addition of full wine bottles to the weight of the rack itself can exceed the limit quickly.
