How to Dye a Satin Shoe
It's frankly impossible for manufacturers to produce satin shoes in every single color of the rainbow - it isn't realistic or cost effective. But if you would like your footwear to be a specific hue - to match a costume or outfit, for stage or ballroom dancing, for a bridesmaid dress, or simply because you desire a certain color shoe - then you can purchase a pair of white satin shoes and dye them to any shade you like.
Things You'll Need
- Old pot (never used for cooking)
- Multipurpose household gloves
- Multipurpose dye
- Old spoon
- Clean sponge
- Test square of satin

Boil 2 to 4 cups of water in your old pot. Put on your household gloves.

Release 1 or 2 drops of dye into the water. Stir this dye solution well with your old spoon.

Dip your sponge in the dye solution and apply it to your test square of satin. Assess the color. If it's too light, add more dye to the pot. If it's too dark, slowly add more water to the potuntil you reach the desired shade.

Dip the sponge in the dye solution and apply it to the shoe. Start with the back seam, and make smooth, even strokes in one direction towards the toe until the shoe is covered.

Repeat Step 4 once or twice more for a more vivid color.

Let the shoes dry out for 24 hours before wearing.

Tips & Warnings
In Step 3, keep in mind that color will look darker when wet.
In Step 4, don't oversaturate the shoe with dye.
