How to Make Your Own Ringtone Software

Most cell phones that plug into a computer allow their users to import their own ringtones, as long as the phone supports that specific file type. Users can easily create ringtones from just about any audio file, including ripping audio sound bites from movies. MP3s and WAVs are among the most common supported files, because most phones capable of importing ringtones support MP3s. Other popular file types include AIFFs and AAC (M4A) files---all of which can be converted to and from a number of formats using iTunes Player (free for download from Apple). Although iTunes is the standard player and converter for iPhone software, iPhone users may only convert their music to iPhone ringtone format (M4R) if they originally bought their song from the Apple iTunes store. To convert songs not bought from the iTunes store, users must work in and out of iTunes.
