How to Remove an AV Security Virus
The AV Security Virus, also referred to as Antivirus Security, is a virus that disguises itself as a legitimate antivirus program. The virus informs you that your computer is infected and offers to remove the infection if you click on a link. The link leads to a malicious site that downloads additional Trojans onto your computer. The AV Security Virus is not just annoying, but it also attempts to procure your financial information and slows down your computer.

Delete Infected Files

Click on the "Start" menu.

Click on "Search Files and Folders."

Search for and delete the following files:
"Desktop\Antivirus Security.lnk"
"Start Menu\Antivirus Security"
"Start Menu\Antivirus Security\Antivirus Security.lnk"
"Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Antivirus Security.lnk"
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\scui.cpl"
Delete Infected Registry Keys

Click on the "Start" menu.

Click on "Run."

Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) into the box.

Delete the following registry keys by right-clicking on each one, selecting "Modify" and then selecting "Delete":
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\9178374C66E059CC11C19DCD899FD538"
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AV9" -

Download or purchase an antivirus program and run it. This will remove any malicious files and registry keys you might have missed. And it will help prevent other viruses from infecting your computer in the future.

I went thru and deleted all desktop and any other info I could find on my pc with the AV name. I had to drag it to my trash can to do so. I also right clicked on the AV icon, went under properties and changed the approval checks to deny. It has several tabs...so keep looking. Then hit apply and ok, even if the virus threatens you. Last, I went under start menu....found my Recovery Manager and restored my computer to an earlier start point. A point before I had the virus. This is THE ONLY thing that has worked for me. Since I already have McAfee as my anti-virus and it didn't seem to detect the virus. Once I was able to log back into my pc, I ran a FULL system scan. So, far....I'm clean. Hope this helps.

after trying all of this I have come to the conclusion that my avast will do a system scan so after nothing you guys said worked for me, I coulden't even use my keyboard. I searched my avast settings and started a sytem scan. once I set up my software I rebooted so it would take affect. I will posty my out come when my scan is complete. thanks for nothing guys (by alliepb).

This virus was so frustrating, it would not allow me in my computer programs. I had a 3 week trip and decided to shut down my computer and deal with it when I returned. when I returned, the virus was gone. I then was able to run an anti-virus program. I think the virus had a time limit. I hope this helps others. -

I have tried to find these files but have been unable to. Also, why is it that authorities can't track such virus to the creator using a fake credit card #?
