Although carpet is softer and more comfortable to lay on, it just doesn't have the same appeal as a beautifully shined hardwood floor. Hardwood floors are a highly desirable feature for homeowners because it's easier to maintain, you can't see spots and stains as easily as you do with carpet and it just gives your home a more refined look. When you first get them installed they have a beautiful luster and shine that makes whatever room their in stand out. Unfortunately this shine doesn't last forever. Over time, hardwood floors begin to lose their luster and start to look dull and drab even with regular maintenance. This of course is due to the normal wear and tear of foot traffic. Eventually there will come a time when you will want to restore your hardwood floor's original shine. There are some in-store products that claim to do the trick but most of them just make your hardwood floors look worse by giving them a dull cloudy look. All you really need to make your hardwood floor shine is good old fashioned white vinegar and vegetable oil.
Mix White Vinegar and Vegetable Oil
The first thing you need to do is mix the vinegar and vegetable oil in a spray bottle. You will want to mix equal parts of each liquid in order to make your hardwood floor shining solution. It's a good idea to swirl the bottle around several times to make sure the solution is mixed correctly. Do this every few minutes or so when you are applying it to the floor.

Apply to Floor
Apply the solution to the floor in sections at a time and rub it with a waxing or cotton rag. This will make your work much easier. Make sure you cover the entire floor. The worst thing you could do is go through all that work and discover later that you missed some spots.

Buff the Floor
After Applying your solution to the floor you'll need to go back and buff it. This can be done with a clean cotton rag, waxing rag or a machine buffer. Again just make sure the rag you buff the floor with is clean. You definitely don't want to use the same soiled rag you applied the solution with. Although going back and buffing the floor is a lot of work, it is well worth it. Once this is done you should have a beautifully shined hardwood floor. Enjoy!!
