Instructions

    • 1

Hold ice on the nail polish stain to make it more brittle, without getting it wet from melting ice.

    • 2

Chip away at the hardened nail polish, removing it from the carpet fibers.

    • 3

Reapply fresh (non-melting) ice to the nail polish so it stays brittle as you chip it from the carpet with your fingers.

    • 4

Pour a little acetone onto a clean cloth to moisten.

    • 5

Dab the stain with the acetone, beginning at the outside of the spill and working in so the stain doesn't spread.

    • 6

Dab the area with a dry area of the cloth, again working in, to contain the nail polish. Repeat until the polish is removed.

    • 7

Use a fresh towel to blot more of the acetone out of the carpet.

    • 8

Spray the area until moderately wet with an all-purpose spotter.

    • 9

Blot the area with a clean, dry cloth to remove excess residue.

Tips & Warnings

  • The ice step are not necessary if the polish has dried.

  • Test an inconspicuous area with the acetone to make sure it does not damage the carpet fibers.
