How to Transport a Wedding Gown in a Plane
Destination weddings are a popular trend among brides and grooms. They bring some difficulties, however, in the transportation of all the items brides need for their day. Possibly the most difficult but most important item is the bride's gown. Even the simplest gowns tend to be large and cumbersome and their white or off-white colors are susceptible to stains. Whether your wedding is at a foreign destination or just a state or two away, careful packing and traveling will keep your dress safe and ready for the big day. Does this Spark an idea?

Ask your seamstress or gown retailer for proper hangers for your gown.

Place your gown on the hangers and lay it in the garment bag. Close the garment bag.

Call your airline and find out if the plane on which you are flying has a closet for garment bags.

Fold the garment bag containing your gown in half or in thirds and lay it in your hard-sided, carry-on luggage, if there is no closet on the plane.

Hang your garment bag in the closet if your plane has one, or place the luggage in the overhead compartment.

Open the garment bag and hang the dress from the shower curtain or closet bar in the hotel room or house at your destination. Allow the wrinkles to fall out naturally, as they likely will do after a few days, or use your portable steamer to steam them out.

Tips & Warnings
Place acid-free tissue paper in between the layers of your dress before placing it in the bag to keep the layers voluminous and wrinkle-free.
Follow the garment care instructions for your gown for steaming or washing.
Do not check your bags containing your dress. Leaving your dress to the baggage handlers could risk losing or damaging it.
