How to Use BB Instant Messenger
BlackBerry Messenger is an instant message program designed specifically for communication between BlackBerry devices. Users can chat in real time through a text interface. There is no charge to use BlackBerry Messenger, and all messages are sent and received for free. To use the service, one needs to be within reach of a data signal anywhere in the world. The software comes preloaded on most BlackBerry devices. If the software is not on your device, it can be downloaded from BlackBerry's website.

Add contacts to your messenger list through PIN or email. To locate your own PIN, navigate to "Options," then "Status" then "PIN." Open BlackBerry Messenger. Open the drop down menu and select "Add a Contact." Enter the email address or PIN number of the person you want to add to your list. Hit "OK." The user you requested will remain on the pending list of contacts until he confirms it through his device.

Create groups with your contacts. Open the program, click the trackball and select "Add Group." Enter a name for the group. Highlight a contact's name and click the trackball. Select "Move." You can then move the contact into the group. Select the group and click the trackball to finalize it.

Send a message. Click on the contact's name and select "Start Conversation." A window will come up for you to type your message. To send the message, click the trackball or hit the enter key. Use the back button to exit a conversation. The conversation will still be there when you return to it. When you are done messaging, click the trackball and choose "End Conversation."

Change your status. Messenger allows you to put up a status saying that you are unavailable for chat. Click the trackball and select your status as away or available. You can create a custom away message when you choose away as your status.

Tips & Warnings
To change your messenger name, click the trackball and select "Edit My Info." You can then change your messenger name.
