How to Make Google Maps for Mobile More Usable
Google Maps Mobile allows you to find driving directions and local businesses while you're on the road. Since most mobile phone screens are tiny and hard--even potentially dangerous--to read at a glance, however, Google maps can be cumbersome and difficult to get used to at first. Once you've learned a few tricks, finding your way around Google maps on your mobile phone becomes a breeze.

1
Use the "My Location" feature to make finding the proper route simple. Press the "0" key on your keypad to tell Google maps to find your current location. Google maps uses the cell tower information nearest you to approximate your current location. This won't provide the exact spot where you are located. However, it will quickly give you a general idea of where you are and where you should go next.

2
Search by voice. On some mobile devices, Google maps allows you to speak your search query to make it a snap to find the nearest Chinese restaurant or post office. Simply say, "Chinese restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona" and Google maps will seek options.

3
Save your favorite locations to your history by accessing Google maps on your home computer. After searching for your favorite locations, click "Save to." Then select "Save." When you access Google maps on your mobile device, your history--including those saved locations--appears and you don't have to enter each address using the cumbersome text entry on your mobile phone.

4
Learn different ways of searching for addresses and directions. Enter a zip code for a fast text entry search option. You can also search by business name, business category, city and state, and a host of other alternatives to find the directions you seek.
