How to Build an Indoor Ball Pit

An indoor ball pit is a place where kids can play and enjoy themselves. Ball pits are places with lots of small balls that kids can roll and climb around in. You can make your own indoor ball pit for your own kids, your daycare, or your classroom. You can even make ball pits for restaurants or stores where kids often play.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four sheets of plywood. They should be around five feet long and about three feet high. However, if you want to make a larger ball pit, you can also cut larger pieces of wood. This step is entirely up to you, because you can have any size ball pit that you would like.

    • 2

Place two of your pieces of plywood against the walls in a corner of the room, and use nails or staples to secure them to the wall.

    • 3

Use the other two pieces of plywood to finish your square, using nails or staples to secure it.

    • 4

Buy a rubber mat, or a few rubber mats, which will cover the bottom of your box. Depending on the size of the box you have made, you might need to use several rubber mats to fill up the space.

    • 5

Paint all four sides of the box. Use a latex paint that is lead free.

    • 6

Fill the box with rubber balls. You can buy these balls at a discount store like Wal-Mart, or a toy store like Toys R Us.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have more than one family using the ball pit, wash the balls every day. Otherwise, wash them weekly.
