How to Get a Job as a Casting Director

Every entertainment production needs "talent"--also known as actors. Producers hire casting directors to find actors for them. Casting directors choose suitable actors for roles in commercials, television shows, film, theatre and radio productions.

      Take several high school courses that relate to this position, if possible. Suggested courses include business, creative arts, dramatic arts, management and career development.

      Obtain a diploma or degree in acting, drama, theatre, film or TV studies. Also, courses in administration, business, marketing, public relations and entertainment management will help you to understand the business aspects involved in casting.

      Participate in a co-op placement or internship if it is available at your college. With this program, you'll get to work alongside a casting director and experience firsthand what the job entails. Although you'll not be directly working with the client, you will get a feel for the work environment and will be able to list the experience on your résumé.
