How to Install a Hawking Wireless Adapter on Vista

Hawking wireless adapters are USB devices that look like small satellite dishes. Instead of receiving signals from a satellite, though, the adapters receive WiFi signals and transmit them to your computer. The Hawking device is useful for connecting to a wireless network that is out of range of your computer. Its directional antenna can be pointed in the direction of a strong wireless signal and it will extend the range of that signal. The device is easily integrated with Windows operating systems via a driver download from the Hawking website.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once the installation has been completed, the adapter will act as a WiFi hotspot. Under your available wireless networks, you should see the model number of your Hawking device, to which you should be able to connect.

  • Note that while the connection itself does not come from the USB cable, the adapter is powered through the USB cable. Therefore, if you unplug the cable, you will be disconnected from the wireless network.
