How to Recover a Crashed Computer
These days most of us keep a great deal of vital information on our computers, and it is important for every computer owner to take the steps necessary to keep his computer safe. From installing anti-virus software to avoiding shady Web sites, there are many ways computer owners can protect their hardware and software from harm. Even so, there are times when the computer crashes, and it is important to know how to deal with and recover from those crashes.

Log back on to your computer and press the "F8" key as it is starting up. Tap the "F8" key lightly but repeatedly while the computer is booting. Once the boot menu comes up, choose "Safe Mode" from the menu and allow your computer to boot into safe mode. As soon as you log on to the computer in safe mode you will have the option to start the System Restore process.

Choose a restore point from before your computer crashed and click "Next." The system restore process will take your computer back in time, to a time before the crash first happened. When the restore process is complete the computer will automatically reboot, and when you log on you will be able to accept or reject the restoration.

If the system restore process does not fix your problem, insert the restore CD that came with your computer into your DVD drive. If you do not have a restore CD, contact your computer's manufacturer to order a replacement. During the restore process your computer's hard drive will be reformatted, and the entire operating system will be reinstalled.

Insert the operating system CD when prompted and wait for the installation to complete. After the restoration is complete, log on to the computer and make sure it is functioning properly.

Tips & Warnings
Be sure to reload any files and additional programs after the complete restore has been completed. The restore CD that came with your computer will reformat your drive, so you will need to reload any programs that did not come with your computer.
