1
Shampoo and condition the goatee from roots to ends. Use either everyday shampoo and conditioner or products specifically designed for facial hair. Daily cleansing and conditioning will keep the goatee dirt free, soft and easier to manage. For sensitive skin or skin prone to acne, use non-comedogenic shampoo and conditioner; this will keep pores from becoming clogged.

2
Rinse the goatee thoroughly, then comb through it gently. Do not pull.

3
Blow dry the goatee while combing through it at the same time. This will help dry the goatee straight. One can also hold the end of the goatee in one hand while drying with the other, occasionally combing through with the fingers.

4
Straighten the goatee using a hair straightener. Try using a thin-barreled or mini ceramic straightener. This will flatten the goatee and give it a shinier appearance. The goatee hair must be completely dry before using a ceramic hair iron. This step is optional.

5
Apply a small amount of hair pomade or wax, starting from the end. Avoid getting any hair product on the skin, as this could cause irritation on some people. Stay away from gels or pomades that advertise "the wet look," as this can make the goatee crunchy and sometimes flaky.
