1
Condition hair daily. Snarls occur more easily when hair lacks moisture. Many people think of hair conditioner as an occasional or weekly treatment. Hair which is prone to tangles needs daily infusions of moisture. Using a conditioner specially formulated against tangles can help; however, any condition that reduces hair dryness will alleviate a tendency to tangles.

Dry your hair as gently as possible. Try to avoid rubbing a towel across your locks as this may encourage tangles. Wrap your head with a towel turban-style to absorb until most of the wetness is absorbed. Then take the towel off and use a wide-mouthed comb on damp hair. If possible, let hair air dry thoroughly rather than using a blow-dryer.

Eliminate opportunities for tangles. Long, fine, flyaway hair can easily get caught in clothing. Try confining your hair in a ponytail, braid or bun for at least part of the day. Also, take a look at your bedroom as a source of snarls. If you sleep on your back, go to sleep with wet or uncombed hair, and/or toss and turn, your locks may twist into tangles overnight. Try using a pillowcase made from a softer fibered fabric like silk or satin. Some women with long hair wear a sleep cap at night or braid their hair before going to bed to prevent tangles.

Have your hair trimmed regularly to avoid split ends. Split ends are not only unsightly, they also invite hair tangles.

Tips & Warnings
Tangles occur more frequently with long hair. If you do not have time to devote to hair care, consider switching to a shorter hairstyle.
If tangles occur despite your best efforts, do not pull at your hair. Instead of pulling at hair, use a detangling spray on the area. Try to use your fingers to comb through the tangle, reducing it to its center knot. Use a wide-mouthed comb to work through the last of the knot that cannot be eased out with fingers.
