How to Check Grammar and Punctuation
When writing a school paper, or other important written item, it is always necessary to ensure you're using proper grammar and punctuation. Sometimes, you can make grammatical mistakes carelessly. This can occur when writing a paper too quickly. Therefore, you must be sure to proofread your work after completing it.

1
Reread the paper. To properly check grammar and punctuation, you have to be able to fix the careless errors. By reading over your work, you should be able to notice any mistakes and correct them.
-
2
Read the paper out loud. Sometimes, rereading the work silently is not enough. When reading the words silently, there is still the potential to skip over the careless errors, which usually involve missed words or subject-verb agreement problems. By reading the paper aloud, you can hear mistakes, and you'll be more likely to catch them.

3
Look at the general structure of the paper. One of the most important characteristics of grammar and punctuation is the division of paragraphs. In most works, paragraphs have to be indented. Examine your paper and make sure you indented each of your paragraphs.
-
4
Examine the structure of each of the paragraphs. All sentences need to begin with capital letters and end with periods. It is easy to make such errors when writing rapidly.
-
5
Note areas of the paper of which you are unsure. At times, remembering all the intricacies of grammar and punctuation rules can be challenging. Therefore, if you do not know whether or not a certain part of a sentence requires a comma, or if you are having problems with apostrophe placement, look up the rule in a grammar book. By circling the parts of the paper that may possess such errors, you will be reminded to look up the rules after finishing the edit.
