How to Setup SBC Global DSL

The SBC Global DSL modem is available to customers who are in the AT&T coverage area. Once you have ordered the service you will receive a DSL self-installation kit, which provides step-by-step instructions for an easy installation. Not only does the DSL modem and service allow you to connect your home's computers to one modem wirelessly, you can also log in to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots located at many coffee shops and businesses.

Instructions

      Plug the DSL filter into an available phone jack, and connect the DSL cable from the port labeled "DSL/HPNA" to the "Phone Line" port on your DSL modem.

      Plug your phone cord into the DSL filter's "Phone" port, and connect the other end to your telephone's port.

      Plug the power adapter into an electrical wall outlet, and connect the other end into the "Power" port on your SBC Global modem.

      Wait for the "Power" light to become solid green, and "DSL" and "Internet" light to become solid green.

      Insert the installation disc into your optical drive, and double-click the program icon on your desktop. Click "Continue" and follow the onscreen instructions to install the software.

      Open your Internet browser. Click the URL field, type "http://homeportal" and press the "Return" key on your keyboard. Click the "Run System Setup Wizard" button. Enter your name, address, city/state/zip code, country, home phone and email address.

      Click the "Next" button. Select your time zone, and click the "Next" button. Type in AT&T account name, and create a new password. Type the password again to confirm it, and click the "Next." Click "Register" and "Continue."

      Click the "Apple" icon and click "System Preferences." Click the "Network" button for Macs. For PCs, click the "Start" button and click "Control Panel."

      Click the drop-down menu and click "Create Network" for Macs, and enter your modem's name. The modem's name starts with "2WIRE" and ends with the serial number's last three numbers located on your modem. Enter your password and click "Join." For PCs, click "Network and Internet" link and click "Connect to a network." Click "Set up a new network or connection." Enter your network's name and password, and click "OK."
