How to Bore Sight for Your Crossbow

Crossbows are a popular weapon choice that shoot projectiles called bolts. Scopes or iron sights can be used as an aiming device and need to be sighted before hunting. Bore sights give the shooter a tool that allows a quick initial crossbow set up. The goal of the bore sight is to get the crossbow shooting in a relative location of a desired point of impact (POI) without shooting a large number of bolts.

Instructions

    • 1

Mount the scope on the crossbow or set up the sights. Make sure the scope or the sights are secure to prevent any shifting while shooting.

    • 2

Insert 4 L626 batteries in the bore sight and turn it on by turning the bore sight cap to the right until it fully seals. Place a target 25 yards away from the shooting bench. The laser from the bore sight should project onto the target. Move the scope or sights accordingly, until the laser and the sight line up. For example, if the laser is pointing below the cross-hairs of the scope or the sights, move the scope or sight down. Remove the bore sight from the crossbow before shooting.

    • 3

Slowly cock the crossbow and insert a bolt. Shoot at the target and make an adjustment to the scope or sight based on the POI. Repeat as necessary until the desired POI is achieved.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make small adjustments to the crossbow until you are consistently hitting the POI.

  • Repeat the bore sight process as necessary.

  • Regularly replace batteries.

  • Always wear safety glasses when shooting the crossbow.

  • Make sure the crossbow is pointed in a safe direction.

  • Avoid direct eye contact with the laser beam of the bore sight.
