How to Hide Cable Lines With a TV on a Wall

Wall mounted televisions look cool and add a level of sophistication to a room. By mounting a television on your wall, you will be left to figure out what to do with ugly cables hanging down the wall. If you live in an apartment or other type of rental property, running the wires inside of the wall may not be an option. Luckily there are a couple of ways for you to hide cables on the outside of your wall.

Instructions

  1. Conceal Cables with a Cord Cover Kit

    • 1

Purchase a cord cover kit such as Wiremold's Flat Screen TV Cord Cover Kit. Cord cover kits can be purchased on-line as well as in home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowe's.

    • 2

Measure the width of the television and mark the area in the center to determine where the cover will be placed.

    • 3

Measure the same length on the cable cord base and cover. The base is the section that is attached to the wall. The cover is the portion that goes on top to cover the wires.

    • 4

Cut the base and cover with a hacksaw to match the length you measured.

    • 5

Place the base of the cord cover on the wall under the television, and align it with the center mark you made earlier. Use your level to make sure it is straight, up and down on the wall.

    • 6

Mark the holes of the base with a pen or pencil on the wall to show where the anchors or screws will go.

    • 7

Insert the anchors into the wall where you have marked the holes with a screwdriver. Then fasten the base to the wall with screws. If you have determined there is a stud in this area of the wall, you will not need the anchors and instead, use only the screws.

    • 8

Lay the cables over the base without overlapping them or the cover may not fit well.

    • 9

Attach the top of the cable cord cover to the base.

    • 10

Paint the cable cord cover, if necessary, to match the color of your wall.

    Hide Cables with Decorative Items

    • 11

Purchase or find a table, console or television stand that will match your decor if you don't already have one.

    • 12

Place the piece of furniture beneath the television.

    • 13

Strategically place items such as flowers or pictures in front of the cables tall enough to conceal them.
